Library scavenger hunt...one of our favorite ways to encourage students to look at many different independent reading options in the library - perfect for Middle School & High School!

Why a library scavenger hunt and ideas for how to use it:

  • Start with the school library for our first library scavenge hunt.

  • If possible, a trip to the local library together for another fun library scavenger hunt can be really powerful as well.

  • Creating a learning environment that is fun and engaging, yet rigorous in preparing students to be successful.

  • In order to help create a world of readers – we’ve got to encourage and allow students to read REAL books that they actually WANT to read. Library scavenger hunts can help do this!

  • Students search for new books in the library using the guidelines in the library scavenger hunt to guide them...looking for funny books, a graphic novel, a book that is also a movie, etc.

  • Students write down titles of books as they discover them - trying to fill their library scavenger hunt game boards.

  • Have students share their findings with each other - to expand EVEN MORE ideas about books they may find interesting!

Grab those ideas or use this library scavenger hunt pdf in whatever way is most meaningful for you and your students!

We have found that just walking aimlessly around a library doesn’t help or motivate them. So we came up with this fun scavenger hunt in the library to challenge them and be sure they are getting around to see the many different things their library has to offer.

Your librarian will be shocked by how much fun the big kids are suddenly having in the library with this!! :)

This library scavenger hunt has become a favorite, fun day at the beginning of our reading workshop set up time!

Great for homeschool family visits to the library too!
